Kick Self-oscillating with Noise
This is a variation on the 808 patch. No envelopes are used to build the kick.
The trigger is split and goes in 2 directions.
1 goes directly to a VFC FM in. Another goes to the VCA-B CV in. The noise goes to the VCA-B audio in. Then VCA-B out goes to one of the VCF FM inputs. This gives some extra grit to the initial punch.
Set Q just below self resonance. Higher Q values will ring longer. Lower Q values will be more plucky and punchy. If it’s too high the filter will stay stuck in self-oscillation. If it’s too low the filter will only produce a click.
Drive and soft clipping will have a big effect on the sound.
