This uses a simplified 909 style patch. The core of the patch is that the sound is processed in 2 parallel paths. One path reproduces a drum’s resonant head, while the other path reproduces a drum’s batter head.

A real kick drum has two components: the batter head and the resonant head. The batter head is struck by the beater of the kick pedal and produces the initial attack of the kick. The resonant head is located on the opposite side from the batter head. It is not typically struck but resonates in response to the vibrations from the batter head. The resonant head, producing the kick’s decay.

Envelope A reproduces the decaying tail of a drum’s resonant head. Set attack and decay to 0, and adjust decay and release to taste—50% is a good place to start.

Envelope A modulates the VCO, filter, and final VCA.

Envelope B reproduces the struck punch of a drum’s batter head. Shape will have a large effect on the sound. Lower values will be more clicky, while higher values will have more zippiness.

Envelope B modulates only the noise. Try it with different flavours of noise; some will bring out more click, while others will add more fuzziness.

As a variation, try sending a trigger to the LPF and using Envelope B to modulate the filter.
